Built from the ground up by and for Asian Americans in 2017, Slant’d started as a creative outlet for a group of friends navigating their relationships with their identities as Asian Americans. Through publishing 100+ emerging writers and artists and their heartfelt stories, we began to feel a deeper connection with our culture, each other, and the greater AAPI community.
For the next few years, we embarked on a journey of transformation, starting with our annual literary magazine, then blossoming into a creative collective that found joy in hosting community gatherings and workplace programming centered around inclusive storytelling.
In 2022, six years after the launch of our first issue, our fully volunteer-led team took its first ever org-wide "gap year" to rest and reimagine how we could continue to positively impact the next generation of AAPI creatives. After many months of existential conversations, energizing brainstorms, and major organizational shifts, we emerged from our gap year feeling reinvigorated by our new north star.
At our core, not much has changed: we are still deeply committed to tapping into the power of storytelling to help Asian Americans feel seen, heard, and loved—just as we are.
Today and into the future, we are rebuilding Slant'd as a creative home for Asian Americans to experience personal growth, creative expansion, and meaningful connection.
In the spirit of creative expansion, we are allowing ourselves to dream big about this next chapter—starting with the transformation into a new, independent publishing house that celebrates AAPI voices.
Slant'd is and always will be a community-first project. Thank you for your loyal support—we can't wait to bring you along for the adventure of a lifetime!
